Reflective Speed Limit Signs

The speed limit sign (R2-1) shall display the limit established by law, ordinance, regulation, or as adopted by the authorized agency. Speed limits should be in multiples of 5 mph. We recommend high intensity reflective signs which offers better visibility and longer life spans. High quality, long lasting, and trouble free. Beware of the cheaper brands that fade in direct sunlight after 2 years of use. Click the pictures for detailed descriptions and quantity discounts starting at 5 signs.

What is advanced engineer grade prismatic signs?
These signs will reflect at night when light hits it. Signs are .080 inch thick flat aluminum with 3M's newadvanced engineer grade reflective sheeting applied over the surface, the lettering and background is reflective. Advanced engineer grade offers superior daytime and nighttime brightness compared to standard EG with beaded optics. Signs will never rust and normally have an average life span of 7 years. High quality materials result in longer lasting signs and excellent resistance to fading. Meets ASTM D4956 type I specification.

What is high intensity prismatic reflective speed limit signs?
These signs will reflect at night when light hits it by using encapsulated lens material which offers better reflectivity compared to standard engineer grade reflective signs. These signs are 3 times more reflective then engineer grade. High intensity traffic signs are .080 inch thick flat aluminum with high intensity reflective sheeting applied over the surface. Signs will never rust and have an average life span of 12 years. High quality materials result in longer lasting signs and superior resistance to fading. Signs meet or exceed State and Federal D.O.T. specifications, type IV prismatic reflective. Meets the new federal retroreflectivity requirements for black on yellow signs.

What about diamond grade prismatic signs?
Diamond grade is distinguished by the diamond shaped lattice separating the sheeting layers, and a "coarse" grain to the micro prisms. This sheeting is about 10 times brighter than engineer grade at shallow viewing angles. Signs exceed most State and Federal D.O.T. specifications, type XI prismatic reflective. Meets the new federal retroreflectivity requirements for black on orange signs.

Additional Information
Comes with standard mounting holes centered top and bottom for easy installations. They accept 5/16" bolts and nuts and a standard length to use is 2 1/2" which may be purchased in our sign hardware section. Typically installed on U channel or square posts which may be purchased in our sign posts section. You should always refer to your local DOT guidelines and city requirements when installing traffic control devices. Please refer to the MUTCD which gives examples of how high the speed limit signs should be. Beware of any signs thinner then .080", (.040 or .063) can be easily bent by vandals.
